January Art Events - Paris

Paris is renowned for its art. One of the world's most famous paintings hangs on the wall of The Lourve amongst other priceless works. No matter when you visit Paris, you are sure to find a choice of art related events to enjoy.

The Contemporary Art Fair ( Grand Marché de l'Art Comtemporain) is an inexpensive way to brush up on France's top and emerging artists. The fair takes place at Halle Freyssinet in the 13th arrondissement from 26 - 29 January, 2012. The theme of this year's fair is 'Urban,' so expect to see gritty and cutting edge artwork. Over 150 artists will display their paintings, photographs, and sculptures.

The fair is open from 11am - 7pm each day, with the exception of Thursday when it is open until 9pm. Entry is only 8 euros. To reach the venue take the metro to Quai de la Gare or Chevaleret, both are only a short walk from the building.

If the fair doesn't fully quench your thirst for art the Musee D'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris is holding an exhibition of sculptures by Baselitiz throughout the month of January. Each day two or three guided tours of the exhibit take place for a small entry fee of 4.50 euros. Tours take place at 12.30pm, 2:30pm, 4pm, 5pm, or 7pm. The times will vary depending on the day you go.

Baselitiz is a German sculptor that began his artist career as a painter. His sculptures are very large and carved in wood. The exhibition follows Baselitiz's journey as a sculptor from his first work, produced in 1979, to his most recent works from post 2000.

If you have time, check out the permanent collections too. Entry to these exhibits is free and hours are from 10am to 6pm, Tuesday - Sunday. The museum is closed on Mondays.
